Performer of the Week: Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki, Y&R)

It's kind of late for Performer of the Week, so I'll wrap this up kind of short.

Victor and Nikki flashbacks and re-thinking wedding decisions equals stellar performances from Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki, Y&R) and she has earned the Soaps-Now performer of the Week award for the week of August 3, 2009. Melody was superb, would have been her final scenes, and was terrific. Who ever thought we'd feel this way about an exit, and even happier to know what wasn't it! Great job, Mrs. Scott! Also her on-screen partner doing these scenes, Eric Braeden (Victor) is an honorable mention for his scenes during Zapato's funeral.

This week's honorable mentions include: OLTL's Brett Claywell (Kyle) for his scenes for the Kish kiss last week, and co-star Kassie DePaiva (Blair), who was crazy drunk during the double-weddings. Representing AMC we have Jamie Luner ("Turbo" Liza) who was great during her scenes with Marian. I think I said this before in an observation that some people don't Liza 2.0, just because she's not Marcy Walker, but give the chick a break! Also from AMC is Alicia Minshew (Kendall) who is a testament to all soap stars that you can serve it up even in storyline heck. Repping that Y&R this week are Daniel Goddard and Christel Khalil (Cane and Lily) who broke my heart when Cane brought Lily a lint roller for her hair when she stars chemo! I also had a note to add Jess Walton (Jill) to this list, I don't remember, but if I wrote it down it must have been good. I almost forgot, Vail freakin' Bloom was on point. Well mostly, I was feeling up and down. In my mind was mostly, why didn't Nina act this way with Phillip. Even if it could have been better, that's the best performance Bloom has served up...ever, and that may push Bloom into Y&R's female hustlers league. I think for her scenes with Billy. DAYS honors this week belong to Lauren Koslow and Bryan Datillo (Kate and Lucas) for when Lucas goes off on Kate and she breaks down as the Chloe's poisoning mess is going on. Some days with this storyline I go up and down.

Sorry I couldn't give a more in-depth analysis, but the POW was late as it was, and also hard to decide. Keep a look out for this week's best!

Y&R Friday: Smash into You & The Big Rip-In

Sharon is arrested when she accidentally walks out of the store with a ring when she thinks about she and Nick! Nikki breaks it off with Paul, as she gives him a note to read later as she's leaving town! Ashley remains at a stand-still with Victor, as Sabrina continues to taunt her in her mind. Nikki admits all to Victor, she still loves him and no one will ever love him like she has, but she has to leave town! In the note, Nikki said Adam was gay, and Paul tells Heather. Heather subsequently rips completely into Adam. She tries to believe him for a second, but when she wants to call Rafe, not wanting to put him through anymore pain, he tells her they had something but still won't admit to the sex. He still says that he's not gay or bisexual and that it was just an experiment and he wants to marry her! Heather storms off and never wants to see him again. Nikki is going to the security post to meet a taxi as she sees Ashley driving. Ashley sees Nikki but thinks its Sabrina, as she swerves the car as Nikki has a shocking face!

Couldn't find the great scenes today between Adam and Heather! I'll try to get it up soon. But now we'll see the Victor/Nikki saga I would have posted Sharon scenes but the only I could find had Nicholas and Victoria's small talk in it.

Y&R Tuesday Video Recap

Mac tells MJ she's her friend - lets her stay in the back room at Jimmy's. Billy and Cane go at it, as he lets a secret slip out. Phyllis attacks a woman at Crimson Lights looking like MJ, when the woman threatens to press charges, Sharon takes up for her. Phyllis, Nick and Summer watch Nick and Phyllis's wedding while Sharon watches her wedding to Nick. Victor forgives Nikki on the anniversary of Sabrina's accident. Jack and Victor agree to work together to help take down MJ, but after meeting with Paul and Billy, he deducts Victor may be behind the scheme. Cane vows to stand by Lily' side. More clips soon.

Performers of the Week: Tricia Cast, Jess Walton, Jeanne Cooper (Nina, Jill, Kay, Y&R)

From her first scenes at the beginning of the week, undoubtedly moved by their performances, Tricia Cast, Jess Walton, and Jeanne Cooper all earned the Soaps-Now! Performer of the Week Award for the week of July 6, 2009! At first it was a struggle,

An honorable mentions this week include: Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki, Y&R). I know, I know, but I had to give it to her just for her reaction when she gets a peek of some Radam action.

Not much of a POW this time, everyone was about equal. The Phillip return scenes really just beat everything else out! Hopefully this week everyone will step their game up.

MTS Re-Signs, But Exit Story to Play out -- Will Nikki Really Die?

Michael Logan of TV Guide interview Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) and got several insights on her current storyline, and whether she did resign or not?

When asked about her "tweet-crazy" on screen grandson Kevin Schmidt (Noah) tweeting about a character's death, she said

"Well, jeepers, I would have been happy to tell you before that memo went out. But I will tell you this: The way they write me off is shocking, but ambiguous."

In this statement she said:

"It’s a short amount of time [she will be offscreen]. Just a few weeks. I have not been given my exact date of return. I’m going to take advantage of this overdue breather and have a little “me” time, travel a little bit, get reacquainted with my family and friends. I finished shooting just last Thursday [July 2]. And I really have to hand it to the writers. Nobody knew how this [contract situation] was going to end so they very cleverly figured out a way to get me off the show. I never say stuff like this, but I have been so knocked out, so impressed with the writing of the episodes that air the first week of August. Please put this in your article: That week is not to be missed. It’s an amazing ride—grueling but really satisfying—and the writers did terrific work. Not just with my story but the whole show that week. You cannot miss it. [Head writer-executive producer] Maria Bell, who came in and saved Y&R, as we all know, is doing an amazing job."

Will this bring up the rumors again that a conspiring Adam and MJ take a body out of the ranch. Which I still think is outrageous!! But, this adds support to the claim that Nikki will see Adam doing the do with Rafe. Will he decide she needs to be eliminated?? Are they that diabolical or are they just messing with us? Not just Adam and MJ - the writers too!

So this also puts to quiet that Nikki could have been a possible character recast, in our last post.

Is Y&R Trying to Secretly Recast?

SoapCentral and other soap insiders have been hinting at for weeks that a recast is shaping up at Y&R. Recently, some scripts for the character of Heather Stevens were being recycled and used for new audtions. At the beginning of the year, insiders were reporting that Vail Bloom (Heather) had been taken off contract, but a rep said that her options were picked up, only to other rumors that that was only for 13 weeks. Now word has it, in fact that Bloom may have indeed been demoted. A SoapCentral insiders says that the show doesn't want to indicate that the role is indeed being recast, and Soap Opera Digest says that the show says not to assume that they are recasting the no-nonsense lawyer. However, rumors are popping up that the recast is indeed Mackenzie Browning (Clementine Ford), who popped back up in town and may be outed because of disappointed fans. However a SoapCentral source dismisses that this is unlikely, but Internet poppings suggest that this is a secret way to cover-up the recasting of Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott). In other talks, Bloom landed a guest role on HBO's night show Entourage. We will keep you posted on these current happenings.

A Death on Y&R?

The Young and the Restless star Kevin Schmidt (Noah) tweeted today

Another early morning at Y&R! Someone very close to me has died. On the soap that is...

Who is it? My guess it could be anyone, particularly the Newman family.
For me, two thoughts come to mind, there is Summer, currently in a coma. But I read this big, outrageous, seemingly not possible storyline that Nikki would die. One extraordinary rumor I heard was that Adam and MJ join forces and one night, end up taking out a body at the Newman ranch! But however, this is just speculation, and it is kind of outrageous for the show to do this. But however, it has been stated over and over that Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) would not die, but the exit would be set to leave viewers on a cliffhanger. If it is Summer, will Nick and Sharon be together for good now? If it is Nikki, is she really dead or does her family just think that? Or maybe its neither Summer or Nikki and someone we haven't expected, or a plot twist we haven't seen. There has still not been any recent news on the MTS situation, and there are no impending exits on the show.

So what will happen????
